¶ Safety and emergency procedures
Safety comes first at Voss HPK. Pilots should know emergency numbers, local notification procedures and response plans before flying.
¶ Emergency and important phone numbers
Carry a charged mobile phone with the Hjelp 113 app installed when flying.

- Club and air-sports frequency:
154.175 MHz
- Pilots are encouraged to carry and monitor a radio, especially during group flying, competitions and events such as Ekstremsportveko.
If you are first at an accident scene, follow this order:
- Make the scene safe: Alert other pilots on radio (
154.175 MHz) so they do not land at the scene or create another hazard.
- Start life-saving first aid: Check responsiveness and breathing. If the person is unconscious and not breathing normally, begin CPR with 30 compressions and 2 rescue breaths. Control severe visible bleeding. Keep the airway open and protect the person from the cold ground, for example with a foil blanket or harness as insulation.
- Call 113 as soon as possible: Give the exact location using the Hjelp 113 app or GPS coordinates, the number of injured people and their visible injuries and condition. Stay with the person until rescuers take over.
- Notify police (112): If the medical service does not arrange notification, call the police as well.
- Notify air-sports management: NLF air-sports director: +47 908 67 560. Voss HPK sporting director / club manager: +47 918 03 591 / +47 905 08 620.
- Media: Refer media to the NLF director. Do not comment to journalists, the public or on social media about the cause or the people involved. Police notify next of kin in the event of a death.
¶ Tree landing
If you or another pilot lands in a tree:
- Stay calmly in the harness if suspended above the ground and unable to climb down safely.
- Secure yourself to the trunk using a sling and carabiner from the harness, attaching to a solid branch or the trunk.
- Do not release the wing or reserve parachute until you are secured against falling.
- If the pilot is uninjured, call police on 02800 to report that they are safe. This may prevent an unnecessary large rescue response. Then contact the sporting director or board to coordinate help getting down.
¶ Water landing (Lake Vangsvatnet)
Harness straps and lines can create an immediate drowning hazard:
- Before impact, release leg or chest straps only if the situation permits. Do not release them so early that you could fall out of the harness in the air.
- In the water, immediately free yourself from lines and wing. Swim away from the canopy to avoid entanglement.
- The orange club rescue boat is kept on the lake and is unlocked for emergencies. Start the engine in neutral and attach the kill-switch lanyard before applying power.
- Once the pilot is safely ashore, call 02800 promptly so emergency services can avoid responding to unconfirmed public reports.
- If a glider contacts or is suspended near high-voltage lines, keep well away. Do not approach the wing or harness; step potential and electrical arcing may be fatal.
- Call 110 immediately to have the power disconnected.
- Also notify Voss Energi at +47 56 52 83 50.
¶ Report incidents and near misses (OBSREG)
Once the situation is under control, report unwanted incidents, near misses and equipment failures through the NLF/HPAC OBSREG reporting system. Reports support preventive safety work by the club and federation.
